What Is Yoga?
Know Its Real Meaning...

What is Yoga?

Are you looking for a way to improve circulation, flexibility in the joints, detoxification of the body, and tone the muscles all at the same time? If so, yoga is definitely for you.

But remember, yoga goes far beyond just mere exercises full of awkward routines. Yoga is the union of mind, spirit and body. Yoga comes from the Hindu philosophy used to attain spiritual insight and harmony.

Short History of Yoga

The practice of yoga is thousand years old, and yet it has not only stood the test of time, but has become much more popular in today's society. Yoga originated in India many years ago, with the sole purpose of reaching your highest potential in both health and happiness.

Yoga works on many different levelsso it is an effective method of treating many chronic illnesses in both children and adults.

It has nothing to do with any religion. Can we put a stamp of religion on a scientific thing like yoga? The word yoga comes from sanskrit word yuj which means union.

In yoga we try to unite our individual consciousness with universal consciousness.

Yoga is the journey as well as the goal. Just as every river leads to the ocean, all paths of yoga lead to Self-realization.

Wow!so many paths...

Karma yoga-yoga of action

Bhakti yoga-yoga of devotio

Jnana yoga-yoga of knowledge

Raja yoga-yoga of seven steps

Hatha yoga-yoga of control

There are few other paths also but goal of all the paths is same-to get the most out of life. And I think disease free body and stress free mind is the most basic thing one gets from yoga.

Beginning Yoga

What I see is one starts to explore about yoga is when the person is struggling with some medical condition and nothing is bad about it,at least one is looking for solutions at right place, not in drugs or surgery.

In the western world, the term yoga often refers to Hatha yoga and its postures, movements, and breathing techniques.

Approach of yoga is holistic one.It does not see anydistinction between body and mind.

The nice aspect to yoga is it allows you to begin where you are. In other words, if you have a stiff back, you will work on basic poses with the stretching that will help make the muscles in your back more flexible, making movement in your daily life easier and pain free.

As you progress, you will add additional poses, with each having a unique benefit on your body and mind.

Not only are you striving towards physical well being, you are striving towards spiritual well being as well.

The  ultimate goal of yoga is the attainment of liberation from worldly suffering and the cycle of birth and death.

Unique approach...What is yoga for you?

Yoga offers a body-mind workout that is gentle but very effective in relieving pain, bringing clarity to the mind, and toning your muscles.

A nice aspect about yoga is there are no expensive machines to purchase, the only thing you might want to purchase is a yoga mat and of course instructions.

Most instructions come on DVDs so you can watch and follow along in the comfort of your own home.

There are, of course, yoga instruction classes, which may or may not be right for you.

It depends on your comfort level, but truly when you begin your basic yoga poses, you will start to see positive changes inside and outside of your body and mind.

You will also come to know what is yoga in a real sense by doing it.

Start  your journey from what is yoga to experiencing yoga ,even a few drops of this ocean can change your life.If you want a break from treadmills, weight rooms, or the pool, take a look at yoga.
